By: TIM BALTZ – HOGANSBURG, NY – It began in 1990 as drivers from all over Canada and the United States have come together to try and ink their name alongside others who have been fortunate to win this prestigious event.
In the previous 28 Memorial Cup events 19 different drivers have gone to victory lane and only 7 former 358 Modified track champions have ever won this race, leaving the opportunity for others to leave their mark in this historic event out there on the table.
Carey Terrance took home the win in last year’s running for a 3rd time putting him alongside Dave Heaslip as drivers who have won it 3 or more times. Defending track champion Tim Fuller invaded here back in 2008 and won the event but has since been shutout in previous races. After winning the first 2 events of the season he is the clear odds on favorites to claim his 2nd Cup.
Along with Terrance and Fuller top contenders like Chris Raabe would love to get the Cup for a 2nd time and first since his 2011 win as a rookie. Corey Wheeler, Lance Willix, Brian McDonald, Lee Ladouceur and young stars like Madison Mulder and Jeremy LaSalle will be among many in the field looking to call themselves a Memorial Cup Champion.
The Memorial Cup kicks off the first of 3 races in the MIR 358 Modified Series with race 2 on July 6th and the finale on August. 31st. Along with the Twin Leaf Convenience 358 Modifieds the Crossroads Tobacco Sportsman, Green’s Performance Mod Lites, Novice Sportsman and Bandits will make for a full night of racing. Action kicks off at 7:30pm
