By: TIM BALTZ – HOGANSBURG, NY – It’s been a great start to the 2018 racing season at the Mohawk International Raceway in all 5 divisions with many new winners and familiar faces in victory lane through the first 3 weeks of competition.
Chris Raabe ended the dominance of defending track champion Tim Fuller with a huge Memorial Cup win in the Twin Leaf Convenience 358 Modified division with Lee Ladouceur also making a statement that he would be a threat for the title with a close 2nd place effort. Another major story line was Brianna Ladouceur who ended a yearlong winless drought in the Crossroads Tobacco Sportsman division. After solid runs to start the year the Cornwall native is back on top and chasing that elusive championship.
The action will be extremely fast this coming Friday night at MIR with the first and only appearance for the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints. Jason Barney not only beat Mother Nature at Cornwall last Sunday but he also held off a very determined Coleman Gulick and Modified star Mike Mahaney to pick up his 2nd tour win of the season having won the opener at the Outlaw Speedway in mid April. The Brewerton native currently leads the point standings and going for back to back series titles. Autodrome Drummond winner Steve Poirier has dominated the action at Mohawk winning 4 of the last 5 races including the last 3 in a row. He leads all drivers with a record 8 wins since June of 2008.
Along with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints on the card The Quebec Lightning Sprints will be in attendance. Many top Quebec ESS drivers will also be campaigning in this division as well. Jordan Poirier is the odds on favorites to win both winged events this Friday he nearly pulled off the feat 2 years ago winning the Lightning Sprint race then finishing 3rd in the 360 event. The Twin Leaf Convenience 358 Modified and Bandits will have the night off but The Crossroads Tobacco Sportsman, Green’s Performance Mod Lites and Novice Sportsman will all be on the card. The green flag drops at 7:30pm
