By: TIM BALTZ / HOGANSBURG, NY – Another great night of racing action is set to go this coming Friday night at the Mohawk International Raceway. All 5 divisions are set for battle and the season, although just beginning, has been nothing short of impressive.
1 week ago Chris Raabe made it 2 straight wins in the Twin Leaf Convenience 358 Modified division and did it in dominant fashion. Having won 2 weeks ago claiming his 2nd career Memorial Cup, the Alexandria native took the lead in the early stages of the 30 lap feature. Without the aid of a caution flag runner up Matt Woodruff and 3rd place finisher Joey Ladouceur had no chance to catch him. The Friday night win was the start of a weekend sweep with wins at Airborne and Cornwall.
Brent Kelsey was the man in charge in the Crossroads Tobacco Sportsman 25 lap event. After finishing last season with his first career win Kelsey had some tough company in the late stages holding off one of the hottest drivers in the Sportsman ranks Brianna Ladouceur, who was looking for her 3rd win in a row. It was an emotional win for Kelsey who dedicated the win to his mother who he lost a few weeks back.
Different winners continued in the Green’s Performance Mod Lite division as defending track champion Nick Mallette held off Dan Reif to claim his first of the year. Mallette and Reif were followed by Harley Brown who drove to a season best 3rd place finish.
In Novice Sportsman Kurt Russell made it 5 different winners in 5 events taking the checkered flag in the 15 lap affair. Russell didn’t have it easy as he held off Brian McGinnley who came from 5th on the grid to finish 2nd with opening day winner Corbin Millar crossing 3rd.
After winning 1 time in 2017 veteran Gary Sharlow returned to victory lane making it 4 different winners in 4 events. Sharlow started from the pole and led all 10 laps in an exciting 4 car battle over RJ Tressider, Mike Pecore and Nick Perham.
With 5 weeks of action packed racing in the books for the 2018 season it should be just as exciting this coming Friday night as well. Gates open at 4:30pm with the first green flag flying at 7:30pm.
