Chris Raabe Wins Another At Mohawk International Raceway Friday Night

HOGANSBURG, NY – After a season of tremendous racing action the point championships in many classes came down to this one night. Frenchies and Budease were on hand for the evening. Good Leaf 358 series for the Modifieds, Twin Leaf series for the Sportsman, Pro Stocks, Novice Sportsman, Bandits and Mod Lites were on the card. After the heat races were done it would be time to decide the 2022 Track Championships.

First up it would be the Mod Lites for their 10 lap feature. Wayne Dibble and Jack Lyon would start on the front row. Wayne Dibble would jump out to an early commanding lead. Wayne Dibble would lead all 10 laps to pick up the win. The track champion would be Tristan Dibble for the 2nd year in a row.

The Bandits were up next for their 15 lap event. Macey Tarbell and Jeff Putnam would be the first to see the green flag. Tarbell’s car didn’t appear to be up to power on the start would head pit side from the start. Jeff Putnam would lead the first 13 laps until a late caution. This would set up a wild finish. On the restart, Bob Ray would appear to take the lead and pick up the win. However, Race Officals decided Ray jumped the start and giving Putnam would the win. This would not be the case and Tech Officals disqualified Putnam thus giving the win to Nick Hardnen. Jacob Fountain was the 2022 Track Champion for the Bandits. Macey Tarbell was named Rookie of the Year.

The Novice Sportsman were up next for 15 laps. Steven Tremblay would lead the from the pole and not look back with this race. He would pick up his first career win. Ty David was the Track Champion for the Novice Sportsman and won 3x the Charm award. Steven Tremblay was named, ” Mr. Consistency”.

The Pro Stocks would take to the track for 20 laps. Blayne Nichols would start on the pole. Kevin Fetterly Jr would take the lead after starting from the outside on the front row. Fetterly would have the field covered and go onto lead all 20 laps. Bruno Richard would be the 2022 Track Champion. Zack Daniels was named Rookie of the Year.

The Twin Leaf series would be up next for 35 laps. Casey Swamp would lead the field from the pole position. Swamp would set a blistering pace and begin to work into the lap traffic. However on Lap 14 Thomas Cook’s engine would expire and bring out the first yellow. Swamp would elect to restart from the bottom. On the restart, Shane Pecore would make quick work of 2 cars as he restarted in position number 4. Another yellow would come out again as two cars would come together entering turn 2. On the restart, with Casey Swamp as your leader, Pecore would go to the highside and get around Swamp for the lead. Pecore would lead it from there and would pick up the win. Casey Swamp finished a career best 2nd in the feature. Shane Pecore would be named the 2022 Sportsman Track Champion. Steve Bushey was named Rookie of the Year.

The Good Leaf series would be the final feature of the evening for the 358’s. Jeff Sykes and Chris Frennier would start from the front row for 40 laps. Brian McDonald would take the lead on lap 2 and lead until lap 11 when the yellow came out for Chris Frennier. On the restart, McDonald would lead but Gage Morin would begin to apply pressure to the leader two laps later. By lap 22 Chris Raabe would navigate around McDonald and would begin to nestle himself in heavy lap traffic. On lap 32 the yellow would be displayed for the Lucas Fuller machine as it came to a stop on the backstretch. Raabe would continue to lead the final 8 laps despite feeling the pressure of McDonald. Michael Maresca would be crowned the Good Leaf Series Champion. Justin Stone was Rookie of the Year in the 358s.
