By: TIM BALTZ – HOGANSBURG, NY – Long time sponsor Brass Horse will be on hand at the Mohawk International Raceway this coming Friday night for a full program in all 5 divisions plus the second enduro qualifier of the evening. Also this weekend the drivers in all divisions will be giving back to the great race fans.
Driver autographs have been a popular attraction at many speedways and particularly at Mohawk for many years. It’s a great way to go up and shake the hands of top drivers in all classes, get an autograph and if possible get that long awaited picture with them.
Last week saw a great event with the one and only appearance of the Empire Super Sprints. Former Modified star and 358 Modified feature winner Matt Billings held off Jordan Poirier and Billy VanInwegen for his first ever win on dirt having won an asphalt ESS show 1 year ago. The Quebec Lightning Sprints also made their first of 2 appearances in 2018 with talented driver Mathieu Bardier picking up the win in the 23 car field which included drivers from Quebec, Ontario and the United States. Brianna Ladouceur has also been in the spotlight after collecting her 2nd consecutive win in the Crossroads Tobacco Sportsman division with a brand new race car. After going winless 1 year ago it seems the Cornwall native, who also was named the Seekers Choice Athlete of the Year last Saturday, is back in the hunt and gunning for her first track title. Josh Laware became the 4th different winner in 4 races in the Novice Sportsman. Jason Rose gave him a great fight but Laware, who changed the entire set up on his car, was able to hold off the South Glengarry native. The Green’s Performance Mod Lites saw a family affair last week as Dan Reif took the lead late from Uncle Brad Reif to score his first win of the year becoming the 3rd different winner in 3 events so far.
The Twin Leaf Stores 358 Modified division will be back after a week off for a regular 30 lap contest, along with the return of the Bandit division. With only show up points on the line for the 358 Modifieds, it will be all about getting the win as many drivers so far this year are winless and will be pulling out all the stops to get to victory lane.
It will be nonstop action this coming Friday night as gates open at 4:30pm with racing action getting underway at 7:30pm. For more information about what’s going on at the speedway you can check us out on our website at mohawkintlraceway.com or Follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
