Pete Mitchell Memorial Set For September Weekend

By: TIM BALTZ – HOGANSBURG, NY – With the 5th annual Pete Mitchell Memorial event for the Crossroads Tobacco Sportsman division rained out along with the DirtCar 358 Modified Series event, Mohawk International Raceway management have now decided on a date for the makeup.

What better way to have the biggest race of the season for the Sportsman than to have it during the September 2 day weekend and making it part of the DirtCar Sportsman North Regional Series. The event will not change as far as pay offs or format with $4000 in lap sponsorship money available plus $1000 in contingencies are also on the line for the drivers who qualify for this historical 100 lap contest. With a big event like this, it does happen, drivers will unfortunately not make the show. Not to worry as a special non-qualifiers race will be held to allow those who don’t get in, a chance to showcase their talents.

With all DirtCar sanctioned tracks complete for regular track points, it provides the perfect opportunity to not only see our track regulars do battle but also some of the best from Ontario, Quebec and even a few Central New York invaders will make the trip to try and take home the big check and trophy.

The event will be run on September 15th along with  the Super DirtCar Series, Can Am Mod Lite Series and Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club. With the Unique Ecigs Sportsman Series finale offering $1000 to the winner on Friday night and with 97.3 CKON  on hand, it could be a career weekend for 1 driver. The race day will also feature many pre-race events going on prior to race time, making it a full day of family fun at the races.

The DirtCar 358 Modified Series 75 lap event will also return on September the 14th for their 2nd scheduled race on the card. The August 9th event has been officially rained out and with the Super DirtCar Series on the card for the Saturday portion of the program, you can expect to see some big block invaders in town looking for a little small block cash as well.

Prices this year for the September weekend are very affordable for this year. 2 day pit admission passes begin at $60 with a DirtCar license,$70 without a license. 2 day passes for general admission begin at $50 for adults $40 for seniors / students.  Kids (15 and under) two day passes are only 10 dollars. For those who aren’t sure if they can make both days, affordable single day passes are available. For the Friday show it’s $30 general admission for adults $25 for seniors / students and $5 for kids (15 and under). The prices for Saturday’s Super DirtCar Series and Pete Mitchell Memorial races are $35 for adults $30 for seniors / students and $10 for kids (15 and under).

A reminder to all race fans who were in attendance last Thursday, all wrist bands and general admission tickets from that evening will be honored at any of the remaining regular season races or can be mailed in to the speedway for a refund.
