By: TIM BALTZ – HOGANSBURG, NY – It’s been Mother Nature Three and Mohawk International Raceway Two as far as events go for the 2019 season but this weekend is looking great for the track to even the score.
A full program is set to go this coming Friday night with Cedar View Golf Club on hand which will feature a full program for the Twin Leaf Stores 358 Modifieds, Novice Sportsman and Bandit divisions. The highlights of the night will be the ever-popular Can Am Mod Lite Series which will feature many drivers from Central New York, Ontario, Quebec along with our Mohawk regulars. Opening day winner Kevin Foster leads the track points with 2017 champion Nick Mallette chasing along with plenty of others, who will be looking to grab their first win of the year.
Along with the Can Am Mod Lites, the MIR Sportsman Series will be on the card for a 35 lap $800 to win event and everyone this year has been chasing current points leader Shane Pecore, who is also a two-time and defending series champion. Fresh off his 4th straight win to open the year at Cornwall, the St. Andrews native will be ready to defend the crown. Many drivers like defending track champion Brianna Ladouceur, Zack Arquiett, Cedric Gauvreau, Anthony Rasmussen and new comer Ben Wheeler, will all be up on the wheel and gunning for the opening series win.
The action will begin at 7:30pm and don’t forget that Canadian money will be accepted at par at the main gate only. Canadian race fans are also reminded to pick up a receipt at the toll booth on the way over, present it at the main gate and receive a free bridge pass.
