DirtCar 358-Modified Series & Pete Mitchell Memorial Headline Monday Night Special

By: TIM BALTZ – HOGANSBURG, NY – In a rare mid-week show the top drivers at the Mohawk International Raceway will take on some of the best invaders in DirtCar racing On Monday July 15th.

The DirtCar 358 Modified Series will take to the speedway for round number four in 2019. Two-time track champion Tim Fuller won the series opener at the Can Am Speedway as he bested rival Billy Dunn for the top spot in the 60-lap contest. Mat Williamson the 358 Modified point leader on the series after two events and at the Merrittville Speedway, took the win the following night at the Fulton Speedway as he outran Erick Rudolph and Danny Johnson to the checkered flag for his third ever tour win. With the series just across the border at the Cornwall Speedway for race number three on Sunday, a big field of track regulars and invaders are expected to be on hand for the 75-lap event which pays a cool $4000 to win

The Crossroads Tobacco Sportsman will be on hand for the biggest race of the season at the Mohawk International Raceway. The 6th running of the Pete Mitchell Memorial will take to the speedway for a 54 lap $2000 to win event on Monday. Martin Pelletier won in a thrilling finish last year over Dave Marcuccilli and Adam Pierson but with both Pelletier and Marcuccilli on to the 358 Modified ranks, the opportunity for a brand-new winner is a possibility. Shane Pecore currently leads the points in the Crossroads Tobacco Sportsman ranks and won this very race in 2016. Johnathon Ferguson won the event in 2017 to go along with his track championship season. Brian Hudson claimed the 35 lap Pete Mitchell qualifying race on June 7th, which means he will start at least 13th in the field. It’s a good paying night for the Sportsman drivers with lap money on the line and $200 to take the green flag. No driver has ever won this event twice.

The 358 Modified and Sportsman ranks may be headlining the night but a special Mod Lite challenge will take place with some top invaders expected to be on hand to challenge points leader Kevin Foster and the only two-time winner and 2017 champion Nick Mallette. $400 will go to the feature winner with $100 for taking the green flag. The top three finishers will also have guaranteed starter status for the Stars Mod Lite Nationals event, which will be run on September 14th as part of the Mohawk Nationals weekend.

Pit gates will open at 3pm with the spectator gates opening at 4pm and as always Canadian money will be taken at par for the main gate only. Remember to grab a receipt at the toll booth to grab a free bridge pass at the main gate.
