Mohawk International Raceway Results Frenchies Chevrolet Ford Night May 28th

HOGANSBURG, NY – After a successful opening night, week two would see the MIR Sportsman Series Event #1 take place under beautiful conditions. The crowd would witness a 40 lap series race for the Sportsman as well as a regular show for all other classes. Frenchies Chevrolet Ford was the evening sponsor and have been the long time sponsor of the Memorial Day weekend racing events.

The Super Stocks were up first on the card and Zach Daniels would take the green from the pole position and go on to pick up win #2 on the year. Zach Daniels has lead every single lap for the Super Stocks this season.

The second feature of the evening would see the Bandits get set for their 10 lap event With Frances White set to fire from the pole and Gary Sharlow to his outside it would be a battle all the entire race. White got out to a sizeable lead in the early going however on Lap 3 Curtis Smith would take his car pit side. Frances White would maintain control of the feature with Gary Sharlow doing his best to work the outside. However Sharlow’s efforts would come up short as White would bring his car to Victory Lane for win #1 of the season.

The Mod Lites were up next and prepared to do battle for 15 laps. Due to a rain out at Brewerton Speedway, Michael Maresca would use Jason Premo’s car for the evening and put on quite a display. Starting from the pole Maresca jumped out to a commanding lead and it appeared as if he would go green to checkers. However, on lap 6 the yellow would come out onto the field for Scott Sharpe, who came to a halt. On the restart the #13 car of Thomas Mackey decided to make a race of this for the remaining 9 laps and challenged the #5 car of Maresca. However Maresca fought off the hard charging Mackey and parked his car into Victory Lane for the Mod Lite feature.

The Novice Sportsman made their way onto the speedway for their 15 lap feature. Pryor Stacey would fire from the pole and would see last week’s feature winner Blayden Arquette to his outside. Arquette would take the early lead however on lap 4 the front end of his race machine would fail him coming out of 4. Arquette’s night would see him on the hook and his night would end. From there Stacey would go unchallenged and park his car in Victory Lane for the Novice Sportsman.

The final feature to take to the track would be Race #1 of the MIR Sportsman Series. After putting on an impressive display of driving talent on opening night, Nick Heywood would start from the pole and seek win #2 of the season. Heywood would take the race lead and work his way deep into heavy lap traffic. Jamey Begor would pursue Heywood in lap traffic and try to capture lightning in a bottle. On lap 24 the #44 car of Casey Swamp would bring out the first caution. With the lap traffic cleared up it left Heywood and Begor with nothing but a clean race track in front of them. Heywood would jump out on the restart on Lap 24 but Begor would keep him within striking distance. On Lap 26, Begor was able to take the lead away from Heywood and go on to lead the remaining 14 laps. Jamey Begor parked his car into Victory Lane and picked win #1 of the MIR Sportsman Series.
