HOGANSBURG, NY – Friday June 30th, Round #2 of the Good Leaf 358 Modified Series, Twin Leaf Sportsman Series, Famous Aye’s Pro Stocks, King Canna Limited Sportsman, and the Turtles Nest Mini Stocks
After a week of heavy rain and unfavorable weather the track crew put together a very fast racing surface for Round #2 of the Good Leaf Modified Series and Twin Leaf Series #2 for the Sportsman along with the Famous Aye’s Pro Stocks, King Canna Limited Sportsman and the Turtles Nest Mini Stocks. With the heat racing completed it would be time for the features.
First up it was the Turtles Nest Mini Stocks for 15 20 Mini Stocks would be set for battle as Cale Manor and Curtis Lindsay would make up the front row. Francis White, who started in the 3rd spot, would make his way to the front to lead lap number 1. Francis White would make quick work of the field and lead all 15 laps to pick up the win.
Next up it would be the King Canna Limited Sportsman for 15 laps. Starting on the pole, it was Kyle Reif and to his left it was Dustin Woods. The 16 year old driver, Kyle Reif, would hit his marks around the track for the first 10 laps and appeared to be on a mission. However by lap 11, Devon Guyette would take the lead away and would bring Bob Laware with him to the number 2 spot. Guyette would capture the Swamp’s Automotive Checkered Flag in the King Canna Limited Sportsman, Laware in 2nd and Reif a career best 3rd. The win would be Guyette’s first ever win.
Next up it would round 2 for the Twin Leaf Series for 35 laps. Franklin Mackin and Dan Jalbert would fire from the front row. Mackin would gain the early advantage over Jalbert. By lap 2 Nick Heywood would take the lead away and lead it until lap 8, when the yellow would be displayed for Billy Cook who came to a stop in turn 2. On the restart, Tyler Stevenson would end up in the air on the backstretch and barrel roll his car to bring out the red flag. Stevenson and all over drivers involved would be ok. On the restart, Cook and Heywood would battle side by side with Cook having the slightest advantage to lead lap 9. On lap 13, the yellow would came out again as Greg Snyder slid off the backstretch. Once again the double file restart, Cook and Heywood would fire from the front row. Cook would take the lead but Heywood wasn’t going away easily. The two drivers would exchange the lead several times over the next 25 laps with neither driver able to establish themselves as the fastest car. On lap 29, Cedric Gauvreau would bring out the yellow to restack the field. On the restart, Cook would quickly venture to the top side to maintain the lead. Heywood and Cook would again swap the lead to put on this instant classic. Cook would be able to hold off Heywood by half a car length at the line to pick up the win for the Twin Leaf series race number 2.
Next up it was the 358 modifieds for round 2 of the Good Leaf Series for 40 laps. Ryan Arbuthnot would fire from the the pole and take the early lead. Arbuthnot would set a rapid pace with Chris Raabe following in 2nd, Fuller 3rd by lap 15 of 40. By lap 20 Raabe would appear to get closer to Arthbutnot, however Arbuthnot would not be caught at this time. On lap 37, Ryan Stabler would come to stop in turn 3 to bring out the first yellow. On the restart, Arbuthnot would not look back and would go on to pick up round 2 of the Good Leaf series.
The final feature of the evening would be the Famous Aye’s Pro Stocks for 20 laps. The front row would see Roch Aubin and Blayne Nichols start from the front row. From the start, Aubin would not wait for anyone as he jumped out to the early lead. By lap 3 Joel Herne would take the lead way with Roch Aubin and Zach Daniels in pursuit. By Lap 6 Daniels would wrestle the lead way from Hernecome out for 4 cars who were off the pace on the track. However no one could touch Daniels on this evening as he would go on to pick up the win in the Famous Aye’s Pro Stocks.
